With captivating sounds and a unique charisma, musician Helen Maier inspires a wide audience. From an early age, Maier was surrounded by rhythm and sound, an inheritance that rested in her cradle. The stirring melodies of klezmer and gipsy music were always heard in her home. Even at the tender age of eight, she was gripped by a burning fascination for playing the violin. But her path to music was not always predetermined. She originally trained as a chef before beginning her jazz studies with a focus on folk music at the HSLU Lucerne, where she studied folk music intensively. As part of her bachelor's degree at Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts, Maier deepened her violin studies, focusing on folk music. She received valuable guidance and inspiration from renowned teachers such as Tobias Preisig, Andreas Gabriel, Simon Heggendorn, Nathanael Su and Ina Dimitrova.
Her musical work has been shaped by rich experiences, be it through her family or through inspiring folk music workshops in France and Ireland. She performed on renowned stages at an early age and enriched festivals in Switzerland and abroad with her unique presence. Together with renowned groups such as "Feather & Stone", "Áed", "BIGG", "KUNZ", "À La Django" and "Pigeons on the Gate", she performed and sparked the enthusiasm of the audience. Today she leads her own band "Helen Maier & The Folks", whose sound universe is characterized by her creative vision. Maier draws her inspiration from her exchanges with renowned musicians from all over the world. Through her performances on big stages with the band KUNZ, she was able to gain valuable experience and learn how to deal with nervousness. Maier found a valuable treasure in the wisdom of her violin teacher at the time: "Attitude wins you the favor of the audience." Like delicate wings, these words have imprinted themselves deep inside her, becoming an everlasting motto.
Maier has already won several prizes thanks to her exceptional talent and musical talent. These include the "Golden Lily" for her bachelor's degree concert with "Helen Maier & The Folks" and a grant from the Aargau Board of Trustees. She also won the Swiss Music Award for "Best Album 2022" with KUNZ. In addition to her own music, Maier is also a violin teacher. She takes great pleasure in offering violin lessons and folk music courses and wants to pass on her musical legacy.
