A fantastic weekend in good weather
Varied acts
Visitors to the Irish Openair Toggenburg were able to get very different impressions of Irish music from the various bands. Friday evening was dominated by the hearty bass of Fiddler's Green and the CD launch of Pigeons on the Gate. On Saturday, The Beermats, The Rapparees and Cobblestones came up trumps. In between, the atmosphere was livened up by dance interludes from the Irish Dance School from Schaffhausen. After midnight, the music continued in Paddy's Old Irish Pub and Baltimore Irish Village until the early hours of the morning. The site featured new attractions such as the Fire Village with covered fire pits.
Workshops fully booked
The workshops, which take place on Saturday afternoons, were fully booked this year. Participants were able to learn simple dance steps, learn to play the flute or get to know the bodhrán instrument. What they had learned in the bodhrán course was then presented on the main stage in front of the assembled audience.
Weather luck
Peter was kind to the Ireland enthusiasts in Upper Toggenburg this year. On both Friday and Saturday it was sunny and warm until the evening - many visitors were to be found in skirts or shorts. The good weather probably attracted many spontaneous visitors to the foot of the Säntis: with a total of around 5,000 people, the Openair set a new attendance record. The commitment of the many volunteers was correspondingly high. Without them, an event like this would hardly be possible.
