The Kilkennys: living tradition
You can put tradition in a museum or breathe new life into it. The band The Kilkennys have opted for the latter and are among the most important innovators of Irish music. On their new album "The Colour of Freedom", the quartet also uses familiar instruments such as the whistle and bodhran, but adds many elements to the language, poaching in several styles and allowing themselves cover versions such as Jackson Browne's "Before The Deluge". Above all, however, it is the presence that The Kilkennys show on stage that has made them famous far beyond Ireland's borders.
