The First Leiblach Valley Pipes and Drums

Austria's westernmost province - Vorarlberg - is home to the "1st Scottish Bagpipe Group Austria". Dressed in original Scottish uniforms, The First Leiblach Valley Pipes and Drums presents a varied program that includes classic songs from the Highlands, rhythmic original compositions and beautiful, traditional pieces of music.

The birth of the bagpipes in Leiblachtal (and thus also in Austria) was the Corpus Christi festival in 1987, when three friends (Peter King, Emil King and Walter Biegger) were sitting together singing in a cozy group and the idea was born to make music themselves.

However, two years passed before this project was realized, as it was only then that six pipers met for their first rehearsal. They very quickly realized that they had chosen a very difficult instrument. Their love for this instrument and this music helped them through the first desperate weeks and months. Other pipers soon came forward - and the first drummers also joined. Today, the bagpipe ensemble from Hörbranz consists of 16 pipes and 9 drums, all equipped with original Scottish uniforms.
