Goitse: Traditionally Irish with a certain freshness
The quintet came together at the famous Limerick University. Although the band members stand out due to their young age, the group has already made a name for itself among connoisseurs of traditional Irish music - worldwide! With their second album "Transformed", which was produced by Dónal Lunny, the band shot to the forefront of the genre. The special thing about Goitse's sound is the unique combination of traditional sounds with a very specific quality of their own compositions.
Each of the five has been "All Ireland Champion" at least once on one - or even several - instruments. The only young lady in the group goes by the name of Áine McGeeney and she not only plays the fiddle with virtuosity, but also has a sweet voice that reminds the Irish press of the young Kate Rusby. On accordion and piano we hear Tadhg Ó Meachair, on banjo and mandolin James Harvey, on guitar Conal O'Kane and on bodhran Colm Phelan, who occasionally throws in a fast-paced tap dance interlude.
By the way: "Goitse" is an informal Gaelic greeting and means something like "come here".
